On April 14, 2026, 19-year-old Kiriyanah Harris was shot and killed inside her home on Sheri Drive in Huntsville, Alabama. A nursing student at Drake State Community and Technical College, Kiriyanah was pursuing a career dedicated to caring for others. Family members described her as a dedicated, compassionate honors student with a bright future, a “beautiful soul” whose laughter was contagious and whose kindness touched everyone around her.
Her life was cut short in what authorities have ruled a homicide. A neighbor reported hearing a heartbreaking scream that evening— a woman crying out in distress—before police arrived to find Kiriyanah dead from gunshot wounds. The home she shared with her mother and siblings became the scene of unimaginable loss.
A Relationship Marked by Warning Signs
According to her aunt, Kilisia Harris, Kiriyanah had recently ended a romantic relationship with 20-year-old Jon Savion Clemons. Kiriyanah had tried to help him, even taking him to church with her in hopes of supporting him through what family members believed were anger issues. After the breakup, she expressed a desire to remain friends, showing her characteristic compassion even as she stepped away from the toxicity.
Tragically, that decision to leave appears to have escalated the situation fatally. Hours after the shooting, Huntsville police tracked Clemons during a manhunt. During a traffic stop near University Drive and Pulaski Pike, he reportedly brandished a firearm, leading officers to shoot him. He was hospitalized in critical condition and later reported as stable, facing serious charges with a high bond. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is investigating the officer-involved shooting separately.
A Family Shattered, a Community in Mourning
Kiriyanah’s family is devastated. Her mother found her on the floor in a pool of blood. Aunt Kilisia, who organized a GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses, spoke publicly for the first time, emphasizing Kiriyanah’s sweetness and potential: “She was dedicated, compassionate, and had a bright future ahead of her.” The family feels a hole that “can never be filled,” and they are determined to honor her memory.
In her statements, Kilisia issued a clear warning to other families:
